Coronary artery disease
reliably assessed

Detecting risk early, optimising treatment

Many heart attacks strike without warning. We establish your true risk – and whether your current treatment for coronary artery disease is really protecting you.

About half of all heart attacks occur without any prior symptoms.

The body can compensate for narrowed arteries for a long time. That is why an assessment makes sense even in the absence of classic symptoms.

Even in advanced CAD, targeted adjustments to your treatment can help prevent further cardiovascular events. The key question is not whether you are being treated – but whether your treatment is lowering your actual risk enough.

Who should have CAD assessed now?

Coronary artery disease often goes unnoticed for a long time – or is not treated consistently enough after an acute event.

An appointment is particularly useful if at least one of the following applies:

The earlier we identify your risks, the more often invasive procedures and acute events can be avoided. If in doubt, that alone is a good reason for an assessment.

Known coronary artery disease (CAD)

Many patients are already being treated – but not optimally.

A fresh cardiological assessment is worthwhile, because coronary artery disease is progressive and can remain active despite treatment.

We check whether:

  • your current treatment is lowering your actual risk as far as possible
  • cholesterol, blood pressure and inflammation targets are being met
  • adjustments are needed to prevent further cardiovascular events

A CAD assessment does not replace treatment – it shows whether your treatment is the right one.

Modern CAD diagnostics

Our diagnostics lead to a clear medical answer: how high is your risk – and which treatment will protect you in the long term?

Blood values reveal risks long before symptoms appear.

We analyse, among other things:

  • LDL cholesterol and ApoB to determine the exact number of atherogenic particles
  • lipoprotein(a) as a genetic risk factor
  • inflammatory markers such as hs-CRP
  • metabolic parameters (glucose, HbA1c)

This reveals hidden risk profiles long before symptoms appear.

Not every narrowing is significant.

Stress echocardiography answers key questions:

  • Is blood flow to the heart significantly reduced under stress?
  • Does the heart’s pumping function decline under stress?

Essential for treatment decisions – especially when symptoms are unclear.

Cardiac CT provides non-invasive imaging of the coronary arteries.

  • It detects plaques and significant narrowings.
  • In many cases, this makes a diagnostic cardiac catheterisation unnecessary.

We regularly see patients who, although completely free of symptoms, already show plaques or significant narrowing of the coronary arteries on a preventive cardiac CT. With targeted treatment, their individual risk can be reduced significantly. Conversely, if the findings are normal, medication can often be avoided.

We use it to detect atherosclerosis and narrowing of the carotid arteries (carotid stenosis) early.

  • Even small carotid plaques indicate atherosclerosis elsewhere in the body and are linked to a higher risk of heart attack
  • Severe carotid narrowing significantly increases the risk of stroke

Treatment of coronary artery disease (CAD) – what really helps

Lifestyle changes are not an optional extra but an integral part of CAD treatment.

Their benefit is well established:

  • regular physical activity reduces cardiovascular events by 20–30%.
  • reducing visceral abdominal fat stabilises blood vessels.
  • good sleep improves blood pressure and inflammatory activity.

Done properly, these measures enhance the effect of any medication.

Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory vascular disease.

  • Even when cholesterol levels look good, active inflammation can destabilise plaques and increase the risk of heart attack.
  • A Mediterranean diet, physical activity, weight loss (especially reducing abdominal fat) and metabolically active medication reduce inflammation of the vessel wall.

The goal is not only less plaque – but more stable plaque.

A stent treats a narrowing, not the underlying disease.

Without consistent follow-up care, the risk of another event is 20–30% within 5 years. Our follow-up care includes:

  • assessment of your current risk.
  • lasting lifestyle changes.
  • consistent control of cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar.

LDL cholesterol is a major driver of atherosclerosis.

Studies clearly show:

  • In high-risk patients, lowering LDL cholesterol by 40 mg/dl reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke by about 20–25%.
  • Modern, well-tolerated combination therapies make these targets achievable.

What counts is not where you start – but the target level you reach.

High blood pressure significantly accelerates atherosclerosis.

Even modest improvements in blood pressure make a measurable difference.

  • A 10 mmHg reduction in systolic blood pressure lowers the risk of heart attack by about 20%.

“Coronary artery disease is very treatable – what matters is the diagnosis and the treatment strategy.”

Frequently asked questions about assessing coronary artery disease

We assess CAD systematically and mostly non-invasively. Depending on the situation, we combine cardiac CT with coronary calcium score, stress echocardiography, vascular ultrasound and extended laboratory tests.

No. In many cases, thanks to modern imaging – especially cardiac CT with coronary calcium score – cardiac catheterisation can be avoided.
We only recommend an invasive procedure if it is medically necessary and improves your prognosis.

Yes – treating CAD and providing follow-up care after a heart attack or stent is one of our key areas. We check whether your current treatment is really lowering your risk and fine-tune it to prevent further events.

Treatment is based not on a standard protocol, but on your personal risk profile.
Treatment goals and medication combinations are set individually and adjusted regularly.

Lifestyle changes are an integral part of CAD treatment.
We give targeted advice on exercise, diet, weight, sleep and stress – evidence-based and realistic.

Yes, especially if you are at increased risk.
Many vascular changes cause no symptoms for a long time – an early assessment provides clarity before damage occurs.
