Long-term ECG

Precise detection of arrhythmias – modern diagnostics over several days

Palpitations, a racing heart or dizziness rarely occur at the exact moment an ECG is being recorded at the practice.

A long-term ECG records your heart rhythm continuously as you go about your day – giving a far clearer picture of possible arrhythmias.

At the Cardiology Centre Munich-Pasing, we use modern long-term ECG systems – over several days if needed. We also use AI-assisted analysis to further improve diagnostic accuracy.

For us, modern cardiac diagnostics means recording for long enough, and precisely enough, to reliably detect abnormalities. This greatly increases the detection rate of possible arrhythmias.

What exactly does a long-term ECG measure?

A long-term (Holter) ECG continuously records the heart’s electrical activity over an extended period.

Typical reasons for the test:

  • Palpitations
Extra or irregular heartbeats are among the most common signs of arrhythmias.
  • Racing heart
A sudden racing heart can have various causes and should be assessed individually.
  • Dizziness or brief loss of consciousness
Arrhythmias may be the cause in some cases.
  • Unclear symptoms despite a normal resting ECG
Many arrhythmias do not occur all the time.
  • A normal ECG at the practice does not reliably rule out relevant arrhythmias.
    Monitoring known arrhythmias

A long-term ECG can also be used to track progress or assess the effect of treatment.

When should a long-term ECG be performed?

A long-term ECG can be useful when symptoms occur – but also to investigate abnormal findings further.

How does a long-term ECG work?

We use small, comfortable wireless devices.

The long-term ECG:

  • is painless
  • records your heart rhythm continuously
  • takes place during your normal everyday life
  • can run over several days, depending on the question

Frequently asked questions about the long-term ECG at the Cardiology Centre Munich-Pasing

A long-term ECG is often used for palpitations, a racing heart, dizziness, fainting or unclear symptoms. It can detect atrial fibrillation, extra beats, a fast heart rate, pauses in the heart rhythm or an unusually slow pulse.

Very comfortable – we use small, light, wireless devices that are barely noticeable. Most patients go about their normal routine during the recording without any real restrictions.

We tailor the recording to your symptoms – if needed, our devices can record for up to 7 days.

Not always. Some arrhythmias occur only occasionally, so a longer recording can be helpful.

Yes. That is exactly the point – including work and sport.
